Logmayangui is a vibrant neighbourhood in Ndogpassi, located in close proximity to GDC’s process plant.
With a population of approximately 7,000 people, Logmayangui is home to a growing urban community in the city of Douala.
In 2016, GDC was alerted of the deplorable state of a bridge in Logmayangui. This makeshift bridge located west of our process plant, was built over a stream linking the neighbouring villages of Ndogpassi and Logbaba. Over the years, the wooden bridge which was supposed to be temporary, had fallen apart from over-use and water erosion. When GDC inspected the bridge, it was clear that it had become a safety hazard to the community and was in desperate need of reconstruction. It was impossible for cars to drive on the bridge and the structure was at risk of collapsing under the weight of motor-bikes or pedestrians. Consequently, children who crossed the narrow bridge daily to go to school, also risked falling into the stream due to lack of hand rails.
In April 2016, GDC financed re-construction of the Logmayangui Bridge. The foundation stone was laid on the 22 ndof April and by October 2016, the community had a brand new concrete bridge. GDC plans to have a bridge handover ceremony with the community, on the 16 thof February 2017.
