In 2016, GDC celebrated International Women’s day by making charitable donations to disabled women. We worked with the Littoral Delegation of Social Affairs and some local chiefs to identify social welfare cases.
One of the cases identified was Marie Christine, a young girl who became progressively blind by the age of 12. Her poor parents could not afford to pay for the necessary eye exams requested by the doctor. They were also unable to pay for her school fees at The School for the Blind in Bali, Douala. When GDC learned about Christine’s situation, the company paid for all her medical exams, her tuition, school supplies and transportation costs.
