The La Misericorde Health Center, also known as “Hôpital des Soeurs,” is one of five hospitals in the Archdiocese of Douala, located at Ndogpassi, and is commonly called “Hôpital des Soeurs”.
The health center was created in 1998 at Ndogpassi, with the aim of providing health care to patients from poor or vulnerable backgrounds/social groups. Although consultation is free, patients pay for consultation booklets, medical examinations and medications. The hospital welcomes all patients, irrespective of religion and origin. About 3,000 to 4,000 patients visit the hospital every month, including patients from Edea and the surrounding regions.
The hospital has a day care, a vaccination center, an HIV / AIDS management unit and a maternity ward with an average of 115 to 120 births per month. Complicated cases are usually transferred to the reference Hospital of Douala. A gynecologist also comes in once a week to perform an echography on pregnant women. The hospital has 28 staff (6 registered nurses, 3 midwives, 1 accountant, 2 laboratory technicians and 16 care takers).
La Misericorde health center provides medical services for many pregnant women in the area. For this reason, GDC decided to sponsor the painting of the hospital’s maternity ward. To show our support for the community, GDC staff got involved and volunteered to paint the hospital premises. Painting commenced on August 17th and was finished by August 26th 2015. The maternity staff and management of the health center were very grateful for the company’s collaborative assistance.
